Shazam! Fury of the Gods debuts new character costumes

DC's Shazam! Fury of the Gods is the follow-up to the thrilling 2019 comic book hit Shazam! The movie will reunite us with Billy Batson (Asher Angel), the teenager who, with the power of the word 'shazam,' can transform into a super-powered grown-up (Zachary Levi).

The first film garnered acclaim for its buoyant tone, best described as a fusion of the Tom Hanks comedy Big and DC's very own Superman. It was something of a change of pace for the previously gloomy DC Extended Universe (DCEU), and yielded significant box office success.

Director David F. Sandberg is back behind the camera for the sequel, and he has debuted some glossy and striking new costume designs. From left to right: Adam Brody (The O.C.) as the adult Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer), Billy's best friend; Meagan Goode (Brick) as the adult Darla Dudley (Faithe Herman); Ross Butler as the adult version of Eugene Choi (Ian Chen); Zachary Levi as Billy Batson/Shazam; Grace Fulton (replacing Michelle Borth) as Mary Bromfield, Billy’s older sister; and D.J. Cotrona as the adult version of Pedro Peña (Jovan Armand).

Billy/Shazam's extended family must unite to fight the 'daughters of Atlas', a villainous contingent embodied by Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler. There's no word yet on whether the movie pick up the climactic thread of the first movie, in which the evil Dr Sivana (Mark Strong) was approached by worm-like master-villain Mr. Mind. One for the sequel's post-credits sequence, perhaps?

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is released on the 2nd of June 2023.
